Submissions
Issue II: Flight and Fog
The LAM, a new Literary Arts Magazine, is dedicated to publishing prose, poetry, and art by authors and artists in Lanark County. We are seeking submissions on the theme of flight and fog for our second issue coming this Fall!
The LAM accepts visual art submissions as well as fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry. We welcome experimental pieces that challenge form and our preconceptions of what art can be.
Issue II will be released digitally in full colour on our website: www.thelamonline.com.

General Information:
Theme: All successful submissions will conform to the issue’s theme: flight and fog. We welcome (and are more likely to select) creative interpretations of the theme.
Fees: There is no cost to submit to The LAM.
Payment: The LAM is a 100% volunteer-run publication that publishes annually. We depend on community donations to help produce the magazine and pay our contributors. We use the funds we raise to keep the magazine running. This includes our website, domain, and software subscriptions. Once an issue is published, we withhold the funds required to sustain the magazine for the following calendar year (approximately $300 CAD in 2025). The remaining funds are split equally between our contributors. In 2025, this meant we were able to pay each of our 19 contributors $5 CAD. The LAM does not guarantee payment to our contributors if our fundraising needs are not met.
Copyright: You retain all rights to your work. Chosen works will be published on our website (www.thelamonline.com) in the issue for which they were submitted.
Multiple and Simultaneous Submissions: We encourage multiple submissions so long as they adhere to the posted theme and guidelines.
Simultaneous submissions are also welcome. Please let us know if your piece is accepted for publication elsewhere as soon as possible. The LAM does not currently accept reprints.
Eligibility: The LAM welcomes submissions from writers and artists residing in Lanark County. This includes: Mississippi Mills, Carleton Place, Beckwith, Lanark Highlands, Montague, Drummond North Elmsley, Perth, Tay Valley, and Smiths Falls. You must have an address in one of these locales to be eligible for publication within our magazine. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please send an email to submissions.thelam@gmail.com.
Timeline: We are open to submissions until 11:59 PM on 31 May 2026. Authors and artists will be notified of results by 15 August 2026. All submissions will receive a response by email on or before this date indicating whether they have been selected. If you have not received a response by this date, please feel free to query the editors.
Feedback: Due to the workload associated with creating a magazine, we will not be able to provide feedback on any submissions at this time.
AI: By submitting a piece to the LAM, you certify that no generative AI was used in the creation of your piece. The LAM seeks to publish authors and artists who have created their submissions in whole. Thank you!
